Narrative theories for music video

The narrative theories that I will like to portray in my music video would be:

- Vladimir Propp's theory;
This means that I would need to include few of his 8 characters that are needed for all storytelling.
I would include an Hero, the helper, the princess. This way we get to see how the hero meets the princess with the help of the helper while also being the villain.

- Tzvetan Todorov's' Narrative theory;
This means that I would need to find a start where there is a visible 'Equilibrium' in which the protagonist seems happy. This would show the viewer that this is what the protagonist is aiming for in their journey and how they want to go back to it.
It would be shot in the order of; Equilibrium- Disequilibrium- New Equilibrium.

- Barthes' Codes;
This means that I will be using one of Barthes' 5 codes. I would like to include Enigma and Symbolic codes into my music video because I want the audience to feel like they are solving this problem with the main protagonist and also understand the narrative more by symbolic codes when watching the video through.

- Claude Levi-Strauss' Binary oppositions;
This means the opposites of two terms like Light, Dark or Hero, villain etc. I will be using this to show the different ranges of opposition I can show an example would be there will be light areas contrast to the dark areas, also, love and hate in the music video.

Questionnaire for the target market

My target market are audience around 16-18, I chose this because I felt that they will be unable to understand the narrative of my music video well and they are also easier to understand since I am also around that age therefor, they should be able to also understand how Music videos can be appealing.

Planning of Music Video

Here is the basic planning for what I hope to achieve for the Narrative, possible location and the possible costumes for the music video for Florence + The Machine- 'Hiding'.

Poster for the music video auditions:

This is the poster I made for the auditions for the music video. I have tried to keep it simple and easy to understand for the reader who may be interested. I have kept it black and white so, it doesn't feel like there is too much going on in the poster and it also catches the attention of the reader.

Music videos that are similar to my genre;

Music videos similar to my Genre:

The Genre I would be doing is pop indie. here are some music videos/songs that are similar to the type of style in music I would like to do. These music videos are shot in the style I would also like to do for my music video, I think they are shot very well and are easily understandable when watching the music video.

Brainstorms of music video ideas:

The song is Florence and the Machine – ‘Hiding

The ideas I have thought of are:

1)      I could have two people, trying to find each other throughout the music video.

2)      I could have a concept based video, where I just film the actors hiding instead of narrative, where I state why they are hiding.

3)      I could have some people just lip-sync the song then jump cut throughout the video to other people walking around or something that represents the lyrics in the music so the audience can see the synergy right away.
