Analysis of Lyrics: 'The worst' Jhené Aiko

'The Worst'
(Jhené Aiko )
Tell me whatcha say now?
Tell me whatcha say
Come again?
If you cannot stay down
Then you do not have to pretend
Like there is no way out
I shoulda never let you in
'Cause you got me face down

The start of this lyrics, it feels more like a conversation the artist, Jhene, is having with the her lover, by the way it is worded it seems like they are having an argument over something. The lower lyrics suggest that this person doesn't put enough effort into this relationship, so she is thinking that if she hadn't let him get close to her she wouldn't have to be  arguing over him rite now.

And don't take this personal
But you're the worst
You know what you've done to me
And although it hurts I know
I just can't keep runnin' away

The first two lines suggest kind of sarcastic because shes stating to that someone to not take it 'personal' but the main object is to take it very personally so, it kind of makes the reader imagine what type of scene these lyrics are trying to convey. Later on, she states that she should just running away instead she should face her feelings and possibly let this guy go.

I don't need you, I don't need you, I don't need you, I don't need you
But I want you
I don't mean to, I don't mean to, I don't mean to, I don't mean to
But I love you

The lyrics suggests that she is having debate over if she loves him or not, like one side of her wants to leave him because he has been bad to her, as it seems, and the other side of her doesn't want to let him go because she's attached to him and she might feel alone without him. By having the lyrics, cancel themselves it makes the reader see more clearly what she is thinking and makes them understand what she might be feeling.

Tell me whatcha say now
Tell me whatcha say?
You said that you would come again
You said that we would remain friends but
You know that I do not depend on
Nothing or no one
So why would you show up
So uninvited then
Just change my mind like that

The lyrics suggest that the guy must have broken up with her and they aren't a couple anymore, I believe he must have requested that they remain friends and that he will keep in touch with her, but she doesn't believe that he will follow through with what he is telling her to believe. Later on in the lyrics, the guy shows up 'uninvited', then changes her mind meaning that when he showed up she felt all the good memories of them come back, making her more emotionally unstable about the situation between them.

Please don't take this personal

But you ain't sh*t

And you weren't special
Til I made you so
You better act like you know
That I been through worse than you
I just can't keep runnin' away

This part of the lyrics reveals more about the situation about what the girl really thinks, it shows that she didn't view this guy as 'special' until she made him, she telling him she's been through worse times/ guys then him before so, she should get over this guy, however, she still deeply cares about him and loves him therefore, cannot let go of him easily. The way the lyrics are written it makes it seem like she is getting angrier throughout the video, because she is frustrated and doesn't know what to do about her emotions.

I don't need you, I don't need you, I don't need you, I don't need you

But I want you (But I want you)
I don't mean to, I don't mean to, I don't mean to, I don't mean to
But I love you

The lyrics like before suggests that she wants to leave this guy but, doesn't want to because she is too attached to him and doesn't really want to let him ago.

Everybody's like

He's no item

Please don't like em
He don't wife em
He one nights em
I never listen, no
I shoulda figured tho
All that sh*t you was spittin'
So unoriginal
But it was you
So I was with it
And tell you the truth
Wish we never did it
'Cause I usually do
Stick to the business
But you came out the blue
And then you just flipped it
God damn baby
My mind's blown
I be forgettin'
You live in a different time zone
I think I know what this is
It's just the time's wrong
Yeah, I know what you did
But baby I'm grown
And my love is patient
And kind, and sh*t
If this is real we can build
And do different types of shit
If you was really the realest
Wouldn't be fightin' it
I think your pride is just

The first part of the lyrics suggest that the people around her told her constantly that the person she was with was not loyal and that she should get rid of him, so now she feels that they were right since the things the guy was saying sounded like the stuff she heard before with other guys, and she believed him because she thought he meant the words he said, but now she feels it was wrong that she got involved with him. The lyrics 'different time zone' suggests that she and the guy think differently like they are in different places at the same time so, it makes sense why this is happening to her rite now.By stating 'I'm grown', she suggesting that she doesn't care about what he has done in his past, and now she has matured enough to forgive him. she also suggests this by stating her 'love is patient, and kind...' this helps support that he is willing to forgive him in order for them to move on, or in order for her to help him become a better person. The lyrics later suggest that if the guy was good for her then they can forget about the past and build their new relationship, although I think she understands the reason they broke up was because of the guy's pride.

In the way
Funny how everything changed
Once you got all that you wanted
Nothing was ever the same

In these lyrics, she explains that since he got what he really wanted, now she can see why he lied to about the other things like being with her, etc. She is also stating that after this nothing will be the same so they can grow but she has doubts that they will be able to grow happily.

I don't need you, I don't need you, I don't need you, I don't need you

I still want you

I don't mean to, I don't mean to, I don't mean to, I don't mean to
But I, but I love you
I don't need you, I don't need you, I don't need you, I don't need you
But I want you
I don't mean to, I don't mean to, I don't mean to, I don't mean to
But I love you

In these lyrics it shows us that even through she went through all that she still admits that she loves him, even if what he did was bad for her and she might not be able to be happy with this guy again. I think that the way this situation is written should make it relate able for someone who has been in a relationship and wants to end it with someone knowing how bad they are for them but, not being able to let that person go since they are attached to them deeply.
